Sarah Palin: My current arch-nemesis

Even if I agreed with Sarah Palin on more social issues, the knowledge that she supports aerial hunting of wolves and bears in Alaska would make me sick. (Sources: http://www.hsus.org/wildlife_abuse/news/aerial_hunting_alaska_082108.html, http://www.defendersactionfund.org/newsroom/sarah_palin.html, and http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/09/09/usnews/whispers/main4431199.shtml) I am in no way opposed to ethical, humane hunting methods. In fact, if I could hunt for my own meat, I would do it.

But aerial hunting is needlessly cruel. It's not sport, it's slaughter. Don't believe me? Watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGPFPBmzRrQ

If you can't bear to watch it all the way through, then you shouldn't be voting for a person who endorses this practice. In fact, if you are fond of animals or the environment in any way, shape, or form, you should not be voting for her. Palin opposed listing the polar bear as an endangered species because it might have limited oil drilling in Alaska. (Source: http://www.reuters.com/article/environmentNews/idUSN2145097820080522)

She also believes that global warming is not caused by human behavior, a stance contrary to the official Republican party position, and the position of running mate John McCain. (Source: http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/08/palin-global-wa.html)

Why did I put all of that information ahead of an introduction, or any articles discussing her policies on social issues? Because even if you don't read down to the bottom of this note, I want you to be aware of Palin's views and track record on environmental and animal rights issues. You probably already know her positions on abortion, gay marriage, education, and economics. (If you don't, look those up, too. And while you're at it, type "Sarah Palin" and "rape kits" into a search engine. The results will be interesting, by which I mean appalling.)

If you don't think my sources are credible, find your own. Look for facts, not opinions. Double- and triple-check your findings. And please, please, please do not vote for Sarah Palin because she's a woman, because she's charismatic, because she's a great public speaker, because she's a mother, or simply because you agree with her on a single issue. Take all of her positions into account. Don't believe everything you see on television. Visit FactCheck.org, a nonpartisan, nonprofit debunking site that discredits false rumors about all of the candidates.

Just keep yourself informed, no matter who you end up supporting. Don't base your vote on the bullshit and rhetoric being spewed on all sides.
