Pick a character I write, and I will give you the top five ideas/concepts/other I keep in mind while writing that character that I believe are essential to depicting them accurately. This includes both original characters and characters about whom I write fanfic.

And just because I want to.

Poll #1668093 TICKY.

What does Tom do when he wants to be sweet to Bill?

Buys him shoes
Ruffles his hair
Teases him
Fetches him Starbucks
Gives him little kisses
Brings the pups into their room/the living room/the kitchen to pile on him
Piles on him along with the puppies
Reads fluffy fanfiction aloud to him
Makes a ticky box poll for him!

I want to know about Never Never Tom. :B
when the gales of November come early: Tomi <3kishmet on January 15th, 2011 05:27 am (UTC)
Shhhh. It's a PG-rated poll! That comes after all the other stuff anyway

Oooh, Never Never Tom.

- He's essentially an adult trapped in a teenager's body. He's experienced twenty years worth of life, after all, just differently than what Bill's gone through.
- Secretly he feels guilty for treating the other lost children the way an older brother would, because that part of him is supposed to be Bill's.
- Related to the last: he's intensely protective of Bill, as much or more so than Bill feels toward him.
- Tom sees Andi as a really annoying almost-parent. He'd be unhappy if Andi died for real, though he has no qualms about wishing death on him.
- Sex is the Best Thing Ever, in Tom's mind. And he is always horny for Bill.

Wyrm's Bride Tom! And On Parthenia Bill. Since the twins need to be together. :>

Touching and teasing is the essential Tom comforting method in my opinion!
when the gales of November come earlykishmet on January 15th, 2011 06:07 am (UTC)
I am so glad you and Tay share my opinion on the twins-must-be-together subject. <3

Wyrm's Bride Tom:
- He's the quintessential big brother: protective, a little like a know-it-all sometimes, and he loves teasing Bill.
- This Tom does have his shy side, but only with Bill. He knows Bill, and how to protect him, and what he needs, but sometimes he's uncertain whether Bill will appreciate him acting on that knowledge.
- Bill is basically the only person who matters in Tom's world.
- Simone does hold more importance in Tom's mind than most of the rest, but only to a degree. Bill's pretty much it.
- Tom wanted to become human more desperately than Bill wanted him to, because then he could leave the basement and take care of Bill full time.

And OP Bill:

- Bill thought bonding seemed scary and a little silly before he met Tom!
- After his affection and need for Tom, curiosity is Bill's number one character trait. It gets him in trouble sometimes. See: the human incident.
- Bill sees Tom alternately as a sexy partner and as a child who must be dealt with patiently.
- Impatience is Bill's number two character trait. Fortunately, the bond with Tom means that he has infinite patience with his human mate!
- Bill has few or no qualms about sex. The bond helps, but if he'd just plain fallen in love with Tom, he would've been just as likely to sex him up in front of everyone!

Wyrm's Bride Tom? And Hex Tom? >_________> On the Bayou Bill? :D?
when the gales of November come earlykishmet on January 15th, 2011 06:17 am (UTC)
:O You and Paceus share a brain! I answered Wyrm's Bride Tom above. ;D

Hex Tom:

- He sometimes thought he loved and hated Bill in equal measure, but that's not true. The love always far outstripped the hate.
- Several times - more than he'd like to admit - Tom thought about going on Hex just to be with Bill and match him again.
- Tom feels intensely guilty that it was Bill who became the addict, not him. When he said he hated Bill, he really hated himself for letting this happen to the baby brother he was supposed to protect.
- Gordon saved Tom from succumbing to the same fate as Bill, and Tom knows it. Sometimes Tom still wonders whether he should feel grateful or angry, or both.
- Tom thought - and still thinks - about Bill all the time. Bill will always be the number one priority in Tom's life.

And omigosh, totally doing On the Bayou Bill tomorrow. For now, eep! :P Bed! <3

People keep sharing brains on this! See above for On the Bayou Bill. ;D Ooh, now, Falling For Tom...

- Old. Of all the Toms I've written, this Tom is the most like the grandpa real Tom claims to be. He's crotchety and adheres to standards of decency that went out of style a couple thousand years ago.
- Also young, in certain ways. Even though he's been around for millennia, there's a lot of things he's never experienced. Sex, for instance!
- Fundamentally good. He's a fallen angel because he didn't quite agree with what heaven was doing at the time, but he's not that closely aligned with the other Fallen, either.
- Addicted to caffeine. He'd never admit to this one, claiming he's just a fan of good Turkish coffee, but he totally is.
- Meticulous. Anything he does, he puts his heart and soul into it, even if it's something he doesn't really want to do.

Hee! I didn't know you liked Baker's Valentine so much! That one was so fun to write, given its old-world atmosphere and just plain twinniness. ♥

Code 483 Bill:

- Focused on Tom. He's not quite as single-minded as, say, Wyrm's Bride Tom and Bill, but the world (galaxy?) definitely revolves around his twin.
- Confident. This Bill's got an unshakable core that tells him he and Tom can go anywhere, accomplish anything.
- A people person. On the whole, Tom would be more content to stay in their room with Bill forever. But Bill's the more personable, social half of their equation, so he drags Tom with him for the ride! And Tom doesn't mind, as long as he and Bill are together.
- Conscious of his appearance. Bill's never going to be the rough-and-ready brand of space cowboy. He likes looking flawless both for himself and for Tom.
- Quick and clever. Both the 483 twins are masters of improvisation and adaptation.

Baker's Valentine Tom:

- Protective of Bill. Above all, he wants to shelter Bill from anything bad in the world, and most of the time he manages it.
- Proud. He's exceptionally proud of their village, their family, and of what he and Bill have accomplished together in running the bakery. And he's even prouder of Bill's talents with icing and with customers.
- Jealous. Just a little, because Bill gets along so well with the ladies.
- Paternally inclined. Tom would really like to adopt some orphans and raise them with Bill, and teach them to take over the bakery once he and Bill retire. Maybe another pair of twins, so they fit just as well together as Tom and Bill do!
- He's more practical than romantic himself, but he's more than willing to make romantic gestures to please Bill.

Love For Sale Bill:

- Streetwise. Tom takes care of him, sure, but Bill knows even more about the dark side of street life than Tom does.
- Protective. Seems odd, I know, but Bill wants to keep certain things that have happened to him (and others like him) from Tom, if at all possible. And he also worries a lot about his good-hearted Tom being mugged or taken advantage of or something.
- Romantic. Despite his job (or maybe because of it), the slightest romantic gesture from Tom will melt Bill into a puddle of goo.
- A little cynical. He couldn't imagine that Tom would want more than one night with him until Tom reassured him otherwise. This characteristic has been lessening as he's been staying with Tom, though.
- Nurturing. Like BV!Tom, this Bill would love to have kids someday. <3

Cupid Tom:

- Patient. He waited for centuries for Bill to catch on to the fact that they were madly in love with each other!
- Firm crust, marshmallowy center. Sometimes he pretends to be dismissive of romance because he's seen so much of it, but Bill chisels his way (deliberately or not) through to the squishy romantic underneath.
- More devoted to Bill than to his job. Tom is an awful Cupid, technically, though he does his work well. He honestly would've been happy to go Below, as long as Bill came with him.
- Horny. He's gone a long damn time without sex! Now that he and Bill have started, they're never going to stop. Ever.
- Fashion conscious. Bill would deny this, but Tom does update his outfits every decade or so. He's proud of himself for that.

Re: Pushing my luck!
LOL YOU DORK. I'm amused.

Sea Change Bill:

- Animal. He's not exactly a seal, obviously, but he has far more in common with them than Tom does. He'll never lose his taste for raw fish!
- Affectionate. Bill loves to touch and be touched, kiss and be kissed, hold and be held, especially by Tom.
- He's got a definite sweet tooth. Sugar is something the sea's never offered, so this is Bill's human side showing through.
- Independent. In a lot of ways he's more independent than Tom, because although Simone did come and visit, she was never with him full-time. Bill was raised in a group of seal and selkie pups, so he had to fend for himself pretty often.
- Relies on instinct. Tom was raised by humans, on land, and so he's a lot more logical. Bill sort of... senses what's right, instead of working it out logically, and he just does what feels like it needs doing at the time.

Haha, okay, Optimist Tom:

- Attached to his mother. Bill sometimes calls him a mama's boy now, and it's pretty much true.
- A realist with his eye on the best possible outcome. He's not just like "Everything will be great!" Rather, he's a glass-half-full guy, while Bill's more the glass-half-empty type. Tom realizes the glass isn't full to the brim, but he does what he can with what he's got.
- Romantic. He shares this in common with Cynic Bill, only he admit to it and Bill would deny it to his dying day.
- Honest. It killed him when he first realized Bill wasn't in on Jost's scheme. Tom never lies if he can possibly help it.
- Humble. Tom truly couldn't believe that Bill/the Cynic would ever want to go on a real date with him. But when it happened, he went with it because, as I said, he always looks on the bright side of any situation.

Tangled Up in Red and Blue Tom:

- Dedicated. He becomes utterly devoted to anything and anyone he cares for, including his job, his, er, side job, and Bill.
- A worrier. This Tom frets about everything. He worries about how the knowledge of his transformation and vigilante activism will affect Bill; he worries about how his and Bill's becoming lovers will impact their relationship as twins and best friends... yup. He worries a lot.
- Responsible. He doesn't need an Uncle Ben to give him the 'with great power etc.' spiel. Now that he has the power, Tom's incapable of sitting back and letting old ladies get mugged.
- An older brother all the way. He reminds me a little of Wyrm's Bride Tom, in that everything he does is fundamentally for Bill. Yes, he sees crimes against other people being committed and wants to save them, but Bill's always at the back of his mind. He's making the streets safer, for Bill.
- A tiny bit ruthless when it comes to people who try and harm Bill. Tom never even came close to killing until someone threatened his twin.

Laying Claim Bill:

- Striking. He makes himself beautiful on purpose, and he always has an unearthly aura about him that draws people to him.
- Gentle, surprisingly so. The time when Bill had semi-rough sex with Tom was the first time he'd let himself loose in a long while. Unlike many incubi, he'd always been careful with his prey because he saw no reason not to be.
- A little clinical, at least he was before he met Tom. Bill didn't get attached to the guys he screwed. He remembered them vaguely, sure, but just the way humans would remember a good meal.
- Torn between instinct and logic. He's a creature of intuition, like selkie Bill, but he fights against it because he's been around humans for so long. This Bill gets in trouble when he defies his instincts, as he does when he tries to stay away from Tom.
- A romantic who's clueless about romance. Bill's always relied on his animal magnetism to find out whether his targets are interested or not. He's never had a reason to attempt seduction! His life is becoming far more interesting now that he and Tom are actually dating...
